The opinions expressed on this site are those of John Wydra, who has been recognized for his perceptive commentary on major contemporary topics, including politics, government, economic and social issues.

John spent his entire career in broadcasting, primarily as a radionews anchorperson with CBS News-WCBS in New York City.  Previously, he anchored newscasts for both KYW Newsradio and KYW Television in Philadelphia, and was President of John Wydra Productions, a maker of documentary and industrial films in the 1970's.

In 1986, John took a one-year leave of absence from CBS in order to run for public office as a candidate for Congress in the 13th U.S. Congressional District in New Jersey, where he won the democratic primary, but lost to the incumbent in the general election.  That experience was the foundation for his intensified interest in public affairs.

John learned from that unique reversal of roles.  From it, he gained a new appreciation for the influence of well-funded special interest groups, how easily office holders and public opinion can be manipulated by those groups, the incestuous link between money and access, and what he and a growing number of concerned citizens believe is a democracy and a way of life that has come under direct and growing threat because of very narrow and very dangerous ideological agendas.

From his first assignment covering a House UnAmerican Activities Committee hearing...through the tumultuous eras of the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement...the Watergate debacle...the Castro revolution and Cuban missile crisis...the 1970's energy crisis...the several Middle East wars including the Lebanese Civil War...the Iranian hostage crisis...the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall...both Persian Gulf Wars...the Oklahoma City bombing...the Waco siege...the attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001...and many other news events large and small...they all shaped John's contextual view of the nation and the world.  His perspective is a reflection of being an eyewitness to history that encompassed 10 presidencies and dramatic shifts in political power.

With an extensive variety of experiences as an award-winning broadcast journalist spanning half a century, John Wydra has unique insights into what America once was, now is, and may become.
